Update: Keep your old prepaid account with a new iPhone

this story from Friday about AT&T forcing you to create a new prepaid account if you get a new iPhone? As it turns out, Apple is the party to deal with in this situation if you want it resolved correctly. Yes, you can get a new iPhone and keep your old prepaid account. You just have to reach someone who knows what the hell they’re talking about.

If anyone with a prepaid plan ever runs into this situation, your first call should be to Apple. Apple will need to work with AT&T to “whitelist” your iPhone, and then things should be a-ok. Don’t make AT&T your first call, as you’ll just be told that if you’re on a prepaid account, you cannot utilize a replacement iPhone without creating a new account.
So there you have it. Call Apple, because they’re smart there. Okay, so we took some liberties in that assessment. We’re just P.O.’d (once again) that AT&T is taking such an “oh well” approach to customer service. “Oh well,” AT&T, we’re just going to take our iPhone to T-Mobile once it’s hacked. [Consumerist]]]>
