Alltel in business with NBC
posted by Stuart on July 20th, 2007 - 11:00 am | Alltel
The world of mobile content is growing more rapidly than we had thought. However, once Google threw their name into the mix, we figured it would open up. NBC is the next big name up, inking a deal with Alltel to provide content through their Axcess system. This will include video-on-demand, web sites, ringtones, graphics, and other multimedia.
All of NBCU’s short-form video channels will be available to Alltel wireless customers, including content from NBC News, Access Hollywood, Telemunod, Late Night with Conan O’Brien, Bravo, Sci Fi Channel and USA Networks. Also available will be content from dotcomedy.com and full episodes of NBC’s “Friday Night Lights.â€
We absolutely love NBC Sports, a newish venture. (Full disclosure: we love it because they hired Aaron Gleeman, a pioneer of sports blogging). This content will also be available via websites that will be available to Alltel subscribers.
This represents another move forward for mobile content. We’re not sure what it means for NBC, but it certainly helps them keep even ground with CBS, who provide content for Boost Mobile. We fully expect FOX to throw their hats into the ring soon enough — maybe they already have and we just haven’t found it yet.
Soon enough, are we even going to need our laptops?
